What this credential is — in plain English. The TDBA Certified Coach credential is a
private methodology certification: it certifies that you have completed TDBA's course and passed TDBA's exam and on-court road test in the Teddy Dupay coaching method. It is
not a government or state license, is
not accredited by any government body, and is
not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a substitute for USA Basketball, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), the U.S. Center for SafeSport, the American Red Cross, or any school district. You must still meet your league, school, and state requirements. Never present this credential as a legal qualification it is not.
1. Your account
You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. Keep access to your email secure; you are responsible for activity under your account. One account is for one coach — certifications are personal and non-transferable.
2. Payment, price, and the founding cohort
- Payments are processed securely by Stripe. Prices are shown at checkout in U.S. dollars.
- The $97 Founding Coach price is an introductory price for the first 250 coaches. When the founding cohort closes, the certification price becomes $197. Founding Coaches keep their founding benefits.
- Certification includes your first year of credential membership. After the first year, membership renews at the then-current renewal price (currently $59/year) to keep your directory listing live, your safety credentials monitored, and your badge licensed. A lifetime option is offered at checkout. You may cancel renewal at any time; lapse handling is described below.
3. 30-day money-back guarantee
If you are not satisfied, request a refund within 30 days of purchase and we will refund your certification fee, no hard questions — you keep any quick-start materials you downloaded. If your road test scores below passing, you receive a free resubmission with written feedback before any refund conversation. Refunds end access to the paid course and any issued credential.
4. The certification, exams, and road test
- To earn the credential you must complete the modules and their checkpoints, pass the written exam, pass the on-court road test scored against our published rubric, and complete Gate Zero "Safety Cleared" (verified third-party background check, abuse-prevention training, and CPR/First-Aid).
- You submit your own honest work. Your road-test video must show you coaching real players in one continuous take. Misrepresenting your identity or work, or submitting footage that is not your own coaching, voids the credential.
- Reviews are performed in good faith against the rubric. One second-reviewer appeal is available; the appeal decision stands.
5. Keeping — and losing — your credential
- Safety Cleared requires current third-party credentials. We verify their dates and remind you before they expire; if a required credential lapses, your Safety Cleared badge is suspended until you upload a current one.
- Renewal lapse is graceful: a grace period with reminders, after which your directory profile shows "inactive" (never deleted). Reactivate by renewing and completing the current refresher — no re-testing.
- Revocation. We may suspend or permanently revoke the credential for a verified safety-credential lapse, for conduct that endangers a child, or for misrepresenting the credential as a government license or as an endorsement it is not.
6. Intellectual property and acceptable use
The course, videos, quizzes, rubric, printables, badges, and all materials are owned by TDBA and licensed to you for your personal use as a coach. You may not copy, resell, share your login, or redistribute the paid content. When your credential is active you may use the "TDBA Certified Coach" name and badge to describe yourself honestly; that license ends if your credential lapses or is revoked. Do not misuse the Service, attempt to bypass the paywall or exam integrity, or upload unlawful content.
7. Not professional advice; assumption of coaching risk
The Service is educational. It is not medical, legal, or safety-certification advice, and it does not replace CPR/First-Aid, SafeSport, or background-check programs — take those separately. Coaching youth sports carries inherent risks; you are responsible for the safety of your practices and for following all applicable rules and laws.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the fullest extent permitted by law, TDBA's total liability arising out of the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Florida.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms; the "last updated" date will change and continued use after an update means you accept it.
